Skin and Hair in Your Care
Caring for the skin and hair of children in our care especially children of colour requires specific knowledge and techniques to ensure their health and well-being. This one-day training is designed to provide foster parents with the essential skills and understanding needed to care for children’s unique skin and hair needs, particularly those of children from different ethnic backgrounds. Foster parents will leave the training feeling confident in how to meet the grooming and health needs of all children in their care, fostering a sense of pride and cultural respect in the process.
This training not only covers the practical aspects of skin and hair care but also addresses the emotional importance of recognising and celebrating a child's cultural identity. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical tips, products, and strategies to make skin and hair care a positive experience for children in care.
Course Content:
- Understanding Skin Care for Children
This session will provide a foundational understanding of how different skin types, particularly in children of colour, require specific care. Topics include moisturising techniques, choosing appropriate skincare products, and managing common skin conditions like eczema and hyperpigmentation. - Hair Care Basics for Children
Participants will learn essential hair care routines for children with curly, coily, afro, straight, locs, coloured or textured hair. The session covers topics such as moisturising, detangling, protective hairstyles, and how to select the right hair products. There will also be a focus on how to foster a positive self-image through hair care.
